Safety Myth - Busted!

Decrease Recordables
Myth:
Most workplace strains are back related and account for the most days away from work.
Busted:
It is true that the greatest number of trunk injuries (shoulder and back) are back related. However, while shoulder injuries are fewer in number, they account for more days away from work. The average number of days away from work is more than twice as high for shoulder injuries as for back injuries.
l
The injuries with the highest days away from work are fractures and carpel tunnel syndrome with 27 days each. Average days away from work for shoulder injuries are 15 days. Next are wrist injuries with 14 days and back injuries are all the way down to 7 days.*
